von Drehle Corporation was facing challenges with a poor cross-machine moisture profile and limited Yankee dryer efficiency at its North Carolina facility. The papermaker partnered with vendor Valmet to perform an internal upgrade on its existing equipment to address these issues.

Valmet implemented a solution by updating the Yankee dryer internals with its new double long straw design. This condensate evacuation system provided more uniform drying. The results included a significantly improved moisture profile and a 500 FPM increase in machine speed, which added 7 tons of throughput per day and decreased converting rejects.
