Veolia in Lodz, operator of the EC4 combined heat and power plant in Poland, faced challenges related to an aging workforce and the need to optimize its boiler operations for greater efficiency and reliability. To address this, the company partnered with vendor Valmet, which delivered its Valmet DNA Combustion Manager solution.

Valmet implemented an advanced process control solution based on engineering expertise and fuzzy logic, which acts as a 24/7 virtual operator to continuously optimize combustion. This resulted in measurable benefits including reduced fuel and urea consumption, lower NOx and CO₂ emissions, and increased boiler efficiency. Valmet's solution provided greater operational stability and helped the plant meet tightening emissions regulations without a major rebuild.
