UPM Kaukas Mill runs Valmet coater covers for more than a year

UPM Kaukas Mill faced challenges with frequent cracks and wear on their coater's original sizer rubber covers, which led to sheet breaks and short running intervals. This was especially problematic for lightweight paper grades. To address these runnability issues, the mill partnered with vendor Valmet to update their roll covers and implement intelligent solutions.

Valmet implemented its polyurethane roll covers, including the Sizer Roll Cover CF and Coater Roll Cover CC, alongside its iRoll technology for online nip and profile monitoring. This solution provided significantly longer running intervals, with coater covers now lasting over a year instead of the previous two to four months. The intelligent data allowed for optimal adjustments, faster start-ups, and improved stability, leading to enhanced efficiency and product quality for UPM Kaukas.
