UPM Fray Bentos boosts pulp quality with Valmet Kappa QC after 10 years of service

UPM Fray Bentos, a pulp mill in Uruguay, needed to replace its aging Kappa Brite Analyzer. The mill saw this as an opportunity to not only maintain its kappa and brightness measurements but also to add new capabilities for measuring shives and fiber morphology, which are critical for producing high-quality, clean pulp. They chose Valmet to provide a solution.

Valmet installed its Valmet Kappa QC online analyzer. The solution provided more frequent and accurate kappa and brightness measurements, enabled the detection of previously hard-to-find shives, and offered new insights into fiber morphology. This allowed for superior online control of process parameters, a better understanding of the effects of raw materials on quality, and helped maintain the mill's product at a very good quality level.
