Thai Cane Paper cuts steam consumption from 45.6 to 40.2 tonnes an hour with Valmet

Thai Cane Paper, a kraft paper producer, was facing challenges with the press section of its PM 2 paper machine, including short felt lifetimes, poor dewatering, sheet drop-off, and felt marking. To address these issues, the company partnered with Valmet on a four-phase improvement project that involved new Valmet Press Felt SPMs and an optimization of the vacuum system.

Valmet implemented a solution that included installing specialized press felts, perforated Uhle box covers, and a Valmet Press Roll Cover PP. This resulted in a significant decrease in steam consumption from 45.6 to 40.2 tonnes per hour, higher paper dryness, extended felt lifetimes, and vacuum energy savings, all while improving overall runnability and quality.
