Stora Enso stabilizes bleaching at Kaukopää with Valmet, cutting final brightness variation

Stora Enso's Kaukopää pulp mill in Finland sought to remove the 'black box' reputation of their bleaching controls and make fiber line stabilization easier for their staff to understand and implement. To address this challenge, Valmet introduced its latest Kappa QC analyzer and embedded control concept.

Valmet's solution embedded new stabilizing controls within the Kappa QC analyzer, which uses Kappa factor control modified with predictive feedback to provide setpoints for chemical dosage controllers. This implementation successfully provided the basis for better upper-level controls and achieved a reduction in final brightness variation that met the mill's expectations.
