Stora Enso cuts paper machine clothing inventory to zero with Valmet

Stora Enso's Veitsiluoto Mill, a major paper and paperboard producer, required a more economical and care-free approach to managing its paper machine clothing, including press felts and forming fabrics. The mill partnered with vendor Valmet to address this challenge.

Valmet implemented a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Agreement, a fixed-fee solution that provided all necessary paper machine clothing. This agreement paid for itself, allowing Stora Enso to budget accurately with a zero inventory value and benefit from volume pricing. A key part of the solution was the implementation of Valmet's seamed press felts, which improved safety and reduced installation time from several hours to just one or two. The partnership also led to joint innovation, such as the development of improved suction box covers that created energy savings.
