SsangYong C&B boosts tissue machine speed by 30 m/min with Valmet

SsangYong C&B, one of South Korea's biggest tissue producers, sought to optimize the press nip efficiency on its TM 4 tissue machine. The main challenges were improving energy efficiency by lowering steam consumption, achieving more uniform moisture profiles, extending roll cover lifetimes, and increasing machine speed. To address this, the company turned to Valmet for a solution involving press roll cover upgrades and iRoll technology for nip profile optimization.

Valmet implemented a solution that included changing the press roll cover material to a harder polyurethane with a new grooving pattern and utilizing its portable iRoll technology to analyze and correct the nip loading profile. This resulted in improved dryness and felt profiles, the elimination of skewness, and updated crowning. The measurable impacts for SsangYong C&B were a 5% reduction in steam consumption, a 5% decrease in roll drive loads, and an increase in machine speed by 30 m/min, leading to significant energy and production efficiency gains.
