The customer, a specialty paper mill in North America, faced significant challenges with its recovery boiler, which was operating with an insufficient char bed that exposed floor tubes to wear. Excessive black liquor on the boiler walls was also increasing wear rates. Following personnel changes, there was an increased need for operator training. This was supported by technical expertise and onsite training. The results were highly successful, as Valmet adjusted key operational parameters to build a manageable char bed, significantly reduced material on the walls, and maintained emissions. The solution enabled operators to properly control air flow and minimize suspension burning.
