Södra Cell Värö Mill expands pulp capacity from 425,000 to 700,000 tonnes with Valmet

Södra Cell Värö Mill, a pulp mill on the west coast of Sweden, required a major expansion and modernization of its operating facility to increase capacity and meet growing market demand for softwood pulp. The challenge was to execute this complex rebuild while the mill continued its normal pulp production at full capacity. Valmet was selected as the key supplier to deliver and install the extensive equipment needed for this strategic project.

Valmet implemented a comprehensive solution, delivering equipment for an additional wood room, a new continuous cooking plant, and major rebuilds of the recovery boiler, fiber line, and pulp drying systems. Despite scheduling challenges, Valmet's work enabled the mill's capacity to increase from 425,000 to 700,000 tonnes per year. The project also allowed the mill to supply 1.6 TWh of green energy annually. Following this success, Valmet was again chosen for a subsequent project to further increase the mill's capacity.
