Södra Cell Mörrum achieves a smooth boiler start-up with Valmet Training Simulator and orders a second simulator

Södra Cell Mörrum, a pulp mill, faced a challenge during a planned upgrade of its aging recovery boiler Distributed Control System (DCS). The mill needed to minimize the risk of programming errors during the conversion and ensure its operators were confident using the new system before start-up. To address this, they turned to vendor Valmet to supply a Valmet Training Simulator as part of the project.

Valmet implemented a highly realistic training simulator that served a dual purpose. It was first used to rigorously test the new DCS programming, eliminating bugs and ensuring a smooth boiler start-up with minimal delays. It was then used for efficient operator training, allowing staff to safely practice on the new system. The results were so positive that Södra Cell Mörrum is creating a dedicated simulator training program and has ordered another Valmet Training Simulator for an upcoming project.
