SCA Obbola cuts CO2 emissions by 20,000 tonnes a year with Valmet

SCA Obbola, a kraftliner mill in Sweden, sought to significantly increase its production capacity to meet growing market demand for sustainable packaging and reduce its carbon footprint. The mill partnered with technology vendor Valmet to execute two key subprojects as part of this major expansion: a fiberline upgrade and a new lime kiln.

Valmet implemented an innovative fiberline concept, including new Optifiner RF refiners and an additional TwinRoll washing press, and supplied a new wood powder-fired lime kiln. The solution successfully increased the mill's daily pulp capacity from 850 to 1,100 air dry tonnes. Valmet's technology also enabled SCA Obbola to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 20,000 tonnes per year, a major step toward climate neutrality.
