Metsä Group upgrades its 32 MW boiler ESP with Valmet to cut dust emissions

Metsä Group's Punkaharju mill, a producer of Kerto LVL and plywood, faced the challenge of tightening emission regulations and needed to upgrade the electrostatic precipitator (ESP) on its power boiler to reduce dust emissions. The mill partnered with vendor Valmet for this project to ensure reliable operation and future compliance.

Valmet delivered a full-scope ESP upgrade, including the manufacturing and installation of all internal components and computational fluid dynamics modeling. The project was completed smoothly and on schedule, with Valmet's solution exceeding performance expectations and successfully reducing the mill's dust emissions to meet the new regulatory requirements.
