Metsä Fibre optimizes 650,000-ton Rauma pulp mill with Valmet

Metsä Fibre, a part of Metsä Group, sought to continuously improve production and sustainability at its Rauma pulp mill by overcoming process bottlenecks and enhancing data-driven decision-making. To address this challenge, the company collaborated with vendor Valmet to implement its Mill-Wide Optimization (MWO) solution.

Valmet implemented its Mill-Wide Optimization solution, which models the behavior and relationships between process areas to provide forward-looking production trends. The solution provided essential information for planning, improved coordination between mill areas, and helped build stronger communication practices. This enabled Metsä Fibre to achieve a maximum sustainable digester production target and optimize operations, such as planning washes and slowdowns more effectively.
