Metsä Board Joutseno extends wire life 20-30% with Valmet

Metsä Board Joutseno, a BCTMP mill in Finland, faced challenges with the operational reliability of its aging twin wire press rolls. Roll damages were disrupting production, and the mill needed a solution to eliminate unplanned downtime and increase forming fabric life. To address this, the mill partnered with vendor Valmet for a comprehensive solution involving new roll technology and services.

Valmet implemented a Roll Service Agreement to manage all service, storage, and coating, and provided new stainless steel press rolls with polyurethane covers. The solution also included Valmet's Asset Manager application for monitoring roll data. As a result, after 19 months the new rolls operated without issue, and wire life increased by 20 to 30 percent, significantly enhancing the mill's availability and reliability.
