A Valmet Case Study
Klabin, a major Brazilian paper producer, sought to position itself as a global leader in coated virgin fiber boards and kraftliner production with its ambitious Puma II Project. To achieve this, it required a highly flexible and large-scale board machine, PM 28, for its Ortigueira Unit. Partnering with Valmet, Klabin implemented advanced stock preparation systems and a complete board making line to meet high demands for energy efficiency, process performance, and product quality.
Valmet delivered a comprehensive solution featuring 13 Conical Refiner Pro units for efficient fiber treatment and a Disc Filter for improved water management. The board machine was equipped with state-of-the-art technologies including OptiFlo Fourdrinier headboxes with a new narrow dilution spacing for superior CD profiles. Valmet also provided extensive digital services, including a Training Simulator and Advanced Process Controls, to optimize the startup and operation. The result is the largest board machine in Latin America, with an annual capacity of 460,000 tonnes, capable of producing a wide range of high-quality grades. Klabin reported excellent results, enhanced operator confidence, and gained customer approval for its products.
