Klabin launches 1.1 million-ton pulp mill with Valmet

Klabin, a major Brazilian pulp producer, faced the challenge of constructing its large-scale PUMA pulp mill, which required one of the world's biggest and highest-capacity drying machines alongside the first in South America designed to produce both fluff and softwood market pulp. To meet this complex technological need, Klabin partnered with vendor Valmet to supply the pulp drying lines.

Valmet's solution included supplying two drying machines, baling, and roll finishing lines. This technology was a game-changer, enabling the mill to achieve a simultaneous output of 1.1 million tonnes/year of hardwood pulp and 400,000 tonnes/year of softwood and fluff pulp. The project was completed on time and within budget, generating significant tax revenue and creating 1,400 new jobs while also exporting up to 150 MW of renewable energy to the national grid.
