Klabin extends refiner segment lifetime to 4000 hours with Valmet

Klabin, a major Brazilian pulp and paper producer, faced the challenge of optimizing its new fiber line for the PM27 kraftliner machine at its Ortigueira mill. The goal was to enhance production efficiency, availability, and equipment lifetime while reducing specific energy consumption (SEC) per ton. Valmet provided its refiner segment technology as part of a comprehensive fiber line solution.

Valmet implemented a solution that included a scrap separator, EVO 46 K blowline refiners, and an RGP 262 A deshive refiner, all supported by Valmet's refiner segments. The results were exceptional, with the refiners handling process variations better than expected to ensure stable performance and high availability from startup. The solution delivered excellent pulp quality with very low shive levels. Most notably, Valmet's refiner segments lasted over 4000 hours, a significant increase from the customer's previous experience of 2300 hours, greatly extending the lifetime of the components.
