Klabin cuts operator training risk with Valmet’s 170-hour simulator program

Klabin, a major Brazilian pulp and paper producer, faced the challenge of ensuring a safe and efficient start-up for its large and complex Puma II plant while mitigating operational risks. To achieve this, Klabin needed a high-quality training solution for its operators. The company engaged Valmet to provide its Operator Training Simulator (OTS) service for the new Paper Machine 27 and various pulp production areas.

Valmet implemented a highly realistic simulator that modeled the entire paper production process from start to finish, a first for a paper machine. This solution was first used for logic testing and validation before being deployed for approximately 170 hours of operator training. The results included a faster learning curve, improved operator performance and agility, and a significant reduction in potential safety failures and productivity losses. Valmet's simulator provided Klabin with a vital tool for operator training and process innovation.
