A Valmet Case Study
Klabin, Brazil's largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable paper packaging solutions, faced the challenge of executing the largest general shutdown in its history at its Ortigueira mill. The complex operation required meticulous planning and coordination of over 5,000 professionals to perform essential maintenance with minimal production impact. Valmet was engaged to provide comprehensive shutdown services, including maintenance of kraft fiber lines, paper machines, and recovery boilers, as well as expert management of spare parts.
Valmet implemented a detailed solution centered on advanced planning, a team of 13 spare parts experts, and the use of its ePartsbook electronic catalog. The vendor deployed nearly 800 professionals to meticulously execute the maintenance activities over 10 days. The result was a highly successful shutdown completed within the stipulated time with minimal unforeseen events. Klabin officials highlighted Valmet's strategic planning, team synergy, and expertise as fundamental to ensuring the factory's continued competitiveness by achieving better results in availability, production cost, and delivery time.
