Irani Papel E Embalagem S.A., a Brazilian paper and packaging producer, faced the challenge of modernizing the reliability and productivity of its Vargem Bonita paper mill, which required an expansion of production and chemical recovery. The aging automation systems posed operational risks. To address this, Irani selected vendor Valmet to implement their Valmet DNA Distributed Control System (DCS).

Valmet provided a comprehensive DCS implementation, which included replacing existing PLCs and unifying all process areas onto a single, intuitive platform without interrupting mill operations. The solution delivered significant results, including greater plant availability and productivity, with over 12,000 tags now being inspected and recorded. The Valmet system also provided easy access to historical data for detailed reporting and achieved the vital milestone of zero accidents during the project.
