Hamburger Hungaria extends pick-up roll running time from 4 to 14 months with Valmet

Hamburger Hungaria, a containerboard mill in Hungary, was challenged by the short running time of its PM 7 pick-up roll, which required unplanned changes every three to four months. This led to extensive downtime, safety risks from cleaning, and vacuum losses from axial seal wear. The customer sought a solution from vendor Valmet to extend the roll's running time to at least 12 months.

Valmet provided a comprehensive solution by delivering two new oil-lubricated pick-up rolls equipped with several upgrades, including Lock Seal axial seals and a Seal Flow lubrication shower. This implementation successfully eliminated the plugging and seal wear issues. As a result, the roll's running time was dramatically extended from 4 to 14 months, and the axial seals were found to be in perfect condition for reuse after this extended period. Valmet's solution also delivered significant energy and water savings for the mill.
