Hamburger Containerboard Dunaújváros cuts coal share to 15% with Valmet

Hamburger Containerboard Dunaújváros, a major European containerboard manufacturer, sought to enhance the stability, efficiency, and environmental performance of its power plant. The facility operates a Valmet CFB Boiler and aimed to reduce emissions while improving profitability. They partnered with Valmet to address these challenges through a series of targeted upgrades under a long-term lifecycle agreement.

Valmet implemented multiple solutions, including an additive feeding system upgrade, a new steam reduction station, and an automatic Shock Pulse Generator system for improved boiler cleaning. These upgrades significantly boosted the power boiler's availability and environmental performance. The results enabled the mill to reduce the coal share in its fuel mix from 20% to 15%, a major step toward its goal of cutting CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030, while also creating new revenue opportunities in the electricity reserve market.
