Domtar achieves 100% uptime with Valmet to improve fluff pulp quality

Domtar's Plymouth mill required precise and stable online measurement and quality control for its fluff pulp production. Since the pulp is sold by the air-dry ton, the sensors needed to be absolutely trustworthy to ensure customers received the exact product they paid for and that it would perform consistently on their converting lines. To address this challenge, Domtar partnered with Valmet.

Valmet implemented a new Valmet IQ quality control system to provide essential dry weight and moisture measurements and to close the loop on cross-direction and machine-direction controls. The solution leveraged a dilution headbox and steam profiler that were already part of a machine rebuild. The results included 100% system uptime and reliable calibration, allowing Domtar to confidently sell its product based on the online gauges.
