CMPC Laja Mill achieves a smooth white liquor plant start-up with Valmet and 50+ DCS issues found in testing

CMPC Laja Mill, a pulp mill in Chile, faced environmental restrictions that required them to improve their white liquor plant's performance. The customer partnered with Valmet to build a new plant, a project that included Valmet's Training Simulator service to ensure a successful start-up.

Valmet implemented comprehensive classroom and simulator training for the mill's personnel, which was key to a rapid and smooth start-up. This solution allowed the mill to switch directly from the old plant to the new one without a shutdown. The Valmet simulator also helped test the distributed control system, uncovering more than 50 issues prior to start-up. The results included stable production, high availability, better white liquor quality, a reduced environmental impact, and an improved working environment.
