CMPC Guaíba achieves a totally odorless mill with Valmet's NCG system and 100% availability

CMPC Guaíba, a pulp mill located near a major city in Brazil, faced the challenge of expanding its production capacity while eliminating hazardous and malodorous gas emissions to fulfill a promise of zero odors made to environmental authorities and the local community. To meet this challenge, they partnered with Valmet to implement a comprehensive, mill-wide non-condensable gas (NCG) treatment system.

Valmet designed and installed an integrated NCG system that collects and treats gases from over 100 sources across the mill's two production lines. The solution utilizes six dedicated combustion locations and sophisticated automation to ensure gases are never vented into the atmosphere. The result is a totally odorless mill, with CMPC Guaíba reporting that the system's availability is practically 100% and that the project has brought significant environmental gains.
