A Valmet Case Study
CMPC, a major pulp and paper producer, faced the challenge of upgrading and modernizing its Guaíba mill's Line 2 in Brazil to significantly boost its sustainability credentials and operational efficiency. The goal of the BioCMPC project was to increase the line's annual pulp production capacity in a sustainable way while minimizing environmental impact. CMPC selected Valmet as its key technology and automation partner for this major investment.
Valmet implemented a comprehensive solution that included a new high-power recovery boiler, upgrades to nearly all process islands like the fiberline and pulp drying, and a new mill-wide automation system. This modernization, executed while the mill remained operational, resulted in an increased annual production capacity of 350,000 tonnes. The project significantly reduced the mill's CO2 emissions and water consumption, positioning it to become one of the most sustainable plants in Brazil. Valmet's delivery was crucial to achieving these operational and environmental results.
