Arauco starts dissolving pulp production at Valdivia with Valmet after a remote June 2020 start-up

Arauco, a pulp mill in Chile, faced the challenge of starting up its new dissolving pulp production line at the Valdivia mill amidst the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic. To enable this product diversification, the mill had previously worked with the vendor Valmet, which had performed a rebuild of the batch cooking plant and pulp drying line.

Valmet implemented a remote start-up solution for the dissolving pulp production, with its experts providing support through a performance center. This approach, combined with the local service team, successfully started the new production line without delay. The project allowed Arauco to diversify its product offer for the global market and also increased the mill's surplus energy capacity to approximately 47 MW.
