April Riau Andalan improves paper machine efficiency and avoids roll changes with Valmet

The customer, April Riau Andalan, wanted to optimize its paper machine process as its existing soft calender required frequent maintenance and unplanned stops for roll changes, leading to production and energy losses. Valmet provided a solution to modify this equipment.

Valmet modified the calender from a soft nip to a hard nip configuration. This resulted in improved paper machine efficiency and runnability, with remarkably longer calender roll grinding intervals. Roll changes could now be performed only during pre-planned shutdowns, improving machine uptime without compromising paper quality.
