To address this, they partnered with Valmet to synchronize maintenance procedures and find a corporate-level way of working through a cooperation agreement for auditing and expert assessment services.

Valmet implemented a collaborative development project, conducting mill studies and audits alongside Ahlstrom's team to identify best practices and create improvement plans. The solution focused on shifting towards more planned maintenance and fostering a unified team approach between maintenance and operations. As a result, Ahlstrom gained better capabilities to find common practices across mills, achieved savings on spare parts, and moved its maintenance structure towards fewer unplanned shutdowns. Valmet's hands-on approach was praised for its effectiveness.
