SBB migrates 21,530 maintenance records with Valantic for the Gotthard Base Tunnel

The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) faced a significant challenge in planning maintenance for the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the world's longest railway tunnel. Without a parallel service tunnel, maintenance had to be meticulously planned to minimize operational disruption. SBB needed to centralize this planning using its SAP system but was hindered by non-integrated processes, a heterogeneous system landscape, and a lack of sufficient master data for the complex logistical task. valantic was engaged to assist with the "GBT data integration" project.

valantic implemented a comprehensive solution that included developing a new zone concept for the tunnel within SAP EAM, modifying and creating interfaces to other systems like Maximo, and training superusers. This ensured all maintenance-relevant master data was completely and correctly mapped, enabling centralized, industrial-grade maintenance planning. The project successfully migrated data for over 12,000 technical objects and established a sustainable data quality framework. The data structures created also served as the basis for the subsequent Ceneri Base Tunnel.
