Hochland migrates 20-year SAP R/3 landscape to S/4HANA with Valantic

Hochland, a major European cheese producer, faced the challenge of migrating from its heavily customized, 20-year-old SAP R/3 system to SAP S/4HANA. Their goal was to create a modern foundation for digital transformation by eliminating uncontrolled system growth and returning to a more standard setup. To undertake this complex project, they selected the vendor valantic for its expertise and partnership approach.

valantic implemented the migration using a primarily greenfield approach, building the new S/4HANA system from scratch while incorporating some brownfield elements where it was sensible. They employed an agile "continuous discovery & delivery" (CD&D) methodology with monthly sprints, which accelerated implementation and kept the project focused. The new S/4HANA system now serves as the solid foundation for Hochland's digital future, enabling streamlined end-to-end processes and introducing more user-friendly Fiori interfaces. The project, which also fostered a new agile mindset among employees, is on track for a 2024 completion across all of Hochland's international locations.
