Electronic exams save teachers’ time and nature

CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd. faced a national need to digitalize exam assessment across Finnish higher-education institutions to cut paper use, save teachers’ time and eliminate problems with illegible handwriting and rigid classroom scheduling. Working with Valamis, the main developer of the EXAM electronic exam system, CSC offers EXAM as an operational service to universities and universities of applied sciences.

Valamis built and continuously develops EXAM for the EXAM-consortium while CSC deploys it to users — today 27 Finnish universities use EXAM and 108,000 exams were completed in EXAM in 2018. The Valamis-developed solution makes the entire exam process electronic (booking, monitoring, grading and integration with administration systems), frees teachers to create and assess anywhere, reduces paper and increases student satisfaction; Valamis and CSC are now expanding capabilities (exam visits, student-device exams, learning analytics and AI-supported assessment).
