UCLA, Quickly And Easily Expands Security In Time For Move-in Weekend

UCLA’s Housing & Hospitality Services needed to quickly expand video surveillance ahead of a major move-in weekend after adding 1,500 new bed spaces across campus. Many ideal camera locations had no power and trenching was impractical, so UCLA turned to V5 Systems and its OnPower portable auxiliary battery units (paired with Axis Communications cameras) for a wireless, rapidly deployable monitoring solution.

V5 Systems supplied solar-powered, self-contained OnPower units that integrated with UCLA’s existing video management system and were simple to install in time for move-in. The deployment let UCLA monitor blind spots and temporary event or construction areas; within a month the cameras recorded about 15 incidents (including a backpack theft and vehicle–bike accidents), improving student safety and operational flexibility.
