Santa Clara Remotely Monitors Waterways To Prevent Floods

Santa Clara Valley Water District was struggling to monitor 275 miles of creeks as rapid growth increased debris, homeless encampments and flood risk, and the district’s cobbled‑together camera network proved unreliable and generated false alarms. To get timely, remote visibility and reduce risky staff deployments, the district engaged V5 Systems and its OnSightTM Portable Surveillance Unit.

V5 Systems deployed self‑powered OnSight units that stream 24/7 real‑time HD video over Wi‑Fi, satellite, cellular or radio and can be installed in less than 30 minutes per unit. The turnkey solution eliminated the need for trenching power lines, cut false positives and unnecessary field dispatches, freed up manpower (and associated costs), and gave staff earlier warning to protect vulnerable residents and property across the district’s waterways.
