Bay Area PD Nabs Moving Serial Shooter

The Bay Area Police Department was investigating a series of mobile drive-by shootings (initially five, ultimately ten incidents) across roughly a 10-square-mile area but had no witnesses, suspects, or useful footage because existing wired security systems were fixed in place. Seeking a rapidly deployable solution, the department engaged V5 Systems to provide its portable OnSight™ video units and OnSound™ acoustic gunshot detection technology.

V5 Systems quickly installed six OnSight portable security units (24" long, 25 lbs, ~30-minute deployment) with HD video, gunshot detection, and real-time streaming to officers’ smart devices. A V5 Systems unit captured a night-time image of the suspect’s vehicle plus an audio clip of a shooting, enabling police to locate and pursue the suspect, who crashed and was taken into custody—ending the 10-incident spree and preventing further injury or possible fatalities.
