ATU Duty Free, a global operator across 21 airports, faced a specific challenge at its Istanbul Ataturk branch: the store’s open layout with three large doorless entrances made accurate visitor counting—and therefore customer insight—very difficult. To avoid altering the customer experience by adding doors, ATU turned to V-Count for a people-counting and visitor analytics solution.

V-Count deployed a multi-camera people-counting system—installing 27 cameras side-by-side at each entrance—to preserve the store’s appearance while delivering reliable traffic and occupancy KPIs. Using V-Count’s data, ATU optimized staffing by occupancy and improved operations, achieving an 18.2% increase in conversion in the first year and growing average basket size.
