State of North Carolina advances climate resilience planning with Usman Group in a 5-month research engagement

The State of North Carolina's Office of Recovery and Resiliency (NCORR) faced the challenge of helping its communities plan for and respond to extreme weather events caused by climate change. They needed to build an online Climate Resilience Clearinghouse to provide resources, especially for vulnerable and underserved populations. NCORR retained the Usman Group for its expertise in user experience research and digital strategy to uncover the needs of a diverse audience and develop a strategic plan for the website's structure and functionality.

The Usman Group conducted a detailed discovery process, including stakeholder interviews and an extensive review of existing resources. They delivered wireframes, a governance plan, and a comprehensive strategy organized into five key categories: Definitions, Data, Resources & Solutions, Funding, and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion. This work provided NCORR with a clear blueprint and a detailed RFP to solicit web vendors, ultimately creating a valuable resource to help local and state leaders navigate climate resilience information.
