A Ushahidi Case Study
Quakemap, representing a relief effort following the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake, faced the immense challenge of coordinating aid. The infrastructure was severely damaged, leaving hundreds of thousands without basic necessities, and relief groups struggled to match the urgent needs of the affected population with the ongoing efforts. They utilized the Ushahidi platform to collect and manage critical reports from the ground.
Ushahidi provided a crisis mapping solution that enabled the collection, verification, and routing of over 2,000 field reports. This allowed more than 50 aid organizations to see what was happening in real-time and coordinate their response effectively. The measurable impact was significant, with action taken on over 350 reports, directly leading to successful evacuations and the delivery of vital supplies. The map was visited 79,000 times, demonstrating its crucial role in the relief effort.
