Iraqi Network for Social Media - Customer Case Study

The Iraqi Network for Social Media (INSM) faced the challenge of documenting human rights violations and electoral fraud during the Iraqi parliamentary elections. To advocate for change, they needed a safe and accessible way for citizens to report issues without fear. They partnered with Ushahidi to utilize its online crowdsourcing platform for collecting and mapping these critical reports.

Ushahidi provided a solution with its user-friendly and anonymous online platform, which eliminated the need for unsafe physical offices and enabled widespread public participation. The measurable results were significant, with election-related reports more than doubling from 532 in 2018 to 1,018 in 2021. This data was used to hold the government accountable, was presented at the United Nations, and helped INSM secure international funding, thereby strengthening their advocacy efforts.
