A Userful Case Study
Monroe County Library System in Florida Keys, USA, needed a better way to manage its public computer network across five branches. Its aging stand-alone Windows XP PCs created privacy, security, and virus concerns, and IT staff often had to drive long distances just to make small changes. Userful’s Userful Desktop was considered as a way to improve centralized control while keeping costs in check.
Userful implemented a zero client desktop solution that lets one PC power multiple independent, locked-down desktops, all managed remotely through Userful Manager. The result was easier administration, stronger patron privacy, and better uptime across 70 public computers. According to the case study, Userful Desktop reduced hardware, electricity, and support costs by an average of 66%, saved 75,917 kilowatts of electricity, and cut 60 tons of CO₂.
