CVS, home of the long-running ExtraCare loyalty program (about 70 million active users), needed a better way to reach loyal customers, drive foot traffic, and give shoppers more reasons to buy. The challenge was to create a mobile experience that made everyday tasks easier while making the loyalty program a prominent, engaging part of the customer journey.

In partnership with Usablenet, CVS launched a high-performing mobile app and mobile web Coupon Center that uses native device capabilities, location-based promotions, mobile ExtraCare card functionality, and easy “send-to-card” coupons (with digital receipts coming soon). In the first year the app produced a 1579% increase in unique visitors, a 94% improvement in conversion rates and a 363% increase in transaction volume; it was downloaded 2.5M+ times and continues to grow (~150% YoY), with ExtraCare driving a large share of non-pharmacy sales and mobile coupon redemptions.
