Case Study: Baystate Health achieves 11‑minute disaster recovery and lower costs with US Signal DRaaS

A US Signal Case Study

Baystate Health - Customer Case Study

Baystate Health, one of New England’s largest health systems with over 12,000 employees serving more than 1,000,000 people annually, needed geodiverse, HIPAA‑compliant disaster recovery that could meet aggressive SLAs and restore operations within two hours. Although their three‑node, active‑active software‑defined data center architecture implemented with VertitechIT provided local replication and high availability, Baystate Health engaged US Signal for an offsite, fully managed DR solution to address catastrophic event risk and stringent compliance requirements.

US Signal delivered DRaaS with near‑continuous block‑level replication (RPOs of seconds, RTOs of minutes), elimination of snapshot-related performance impacts, built‑in data compression, automated failover testing, two annual managed DR tests, monthly health checks, and a fourth data center in Michigan for added geodiversity. The US Signal solution reduced capital expenses, freed Baystate’s IT team from BC/DR maintenance, and—in an automated failover test—restored systems in 11 minutes, well below the two‑hour requirement and minimizing potential patient impact.
