Romande Energie, the leading electricity provider in Western Switzerland, needed a faster and more efficient way to identify promising rooftops for solar projects amid increasing competition and the growing complexity of the energy transition. The company wanted to offer tailored solar and energy services to its customers while quickly assessing roofs based on technical, financial, and environmental criteria.

Urbio provided a digital workflow solution using machine learning and generative design to automate early-stage solar project assessment. With Urbio, Romande Energie reduced the time to qualify and pre-design a roof from up to 20 minutes to under 5 minutes, effectively replacing about 5 days of work with 5 minutes and helping identify the 250 most solar-compatible buildings among more than 2,000.
