A UrbanLogiq Case Study
The City of San Jose partnered with UrbanLogiq to tackle its Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries by better understanding what makes some streets disproportionately dangerous. UrbanLogiq used the city’s ten years of standardized crash data and applied data analytics and a machine‑learning algorithm to surface the key factors driving severe collisions.
UrbanLogiq’s solution validated that a small subset of streets drives a large share of fatalities (37 streets accounted for 30% of fatal crashes in 2017) and showed that contextual factors—like tall buildings, sidewalks and intersections—alongside speed limits and street design, improve collision predictions. By increasing the accuracy of crash risk forecasts, UrbanLogiq enabled the City of San Jose to target interventions and policy work more effectively as it advances toward Vision Zero.
