The University of Michigan Teaches the Future of Planning with UrbanFootprint

The University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning wanted to bring modern planning technology into the classroom without spending too much time on software training. Assistant Professor Robert Goodspeed turned to UrbanFootprint, using its web-based scenario planning platform to help graduate students work on neighborhood planning exercises in Ann Arbor.

With UrbanFootprint’s built-in datasets, intuitive workflows, and analysis tools, students were able to focus on planning concepts instead of GIS setup and data management. UrbanFootprint helped them evaluate land-use scenarios and measure impacts such as greenhouse gas emissions, vehicle miles traveled, transit accessibility, and household costs, saving valuable class time and improving discussion and analysis.
