A UrbanFootprint Case Study
Louisiana Speaks, a South Louisiana recovery planning initiative, faced the challenge of rebuilding after the destructive Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Working with UrbanFootprint, the project set out to create a smarter, safer, and more sustainable path forward for the region through a comprehensive physical plan and policy framework.
UrbanFootprint supported the effort with community engagement and computer modeling to test land use, transportation, storm protection, and restoration scenarios across safety, livability, and transportation indicators. The process included more than 1,000 workshop participants and over 23,000 people in a Regional Vision Poll, resulting in a plan adopted by the Louisiana Recovery Authority in 2007 that guided sustainable growth across the 25,000-square-mile region.
