Case Study: Vision California charts a sustainable growth plan with UrbanFootprint

A UrbanFootprint Case Study

Preview of the Vision California Case Study

Charting a Sustainable Growth Plan for California

Vision California, a statewide initiative funded by the California High Speed Rail Authority and the California Strategic Growth Council, faced the challenge of planning for population growth to nearly 50 million people by 2050 while balancing environmental, fiscal, energy, water, public health, and greenhouse gas reduction goals. To help address this, Vision California worked with UrbanFootprint to evaluate how land use and transportation investments could support sustainable growth across the state.

UrbanFootprint was deployed to model and compare a wide range of land use scenarios, using advanced analytics to assess fiscal, environmental, and public health impacts. The analysis helped Vision California build a comprehensive policy assessment that informed major state and regional decisions on transportation infrastructure, building efficiency, and greenhouse gas reduction targets, while also supporting broader goals such as open space preservation, farmland protection, housing affordability, and resource conservation.
