Case Study: City of Sarasota achieves actionable origin–destination insights for Complete Streets planning with Urban SDK

A Urban SDK Case Study

Preview of the City of Sarasota Case Study

Using Urban SDK to track special event trip distribution data during weekdays and weekends, as well as game days and non-game days

The City of Sarasota engaged Urban SDK to better understand travel patterns around the LECOM Field complex and identify Complete Streets opportunities. The City wanted clarity on who travels to the site, from where, when, and by what distances, so Urban SDK performed an Origin‑Destination analysis using anonymized mobile location‑based services (LBS) data aggregated to the Census Tract level.

Urban SDK traced and aggregated trips to produce distance, hourly, and origin‑destination summaries and maps; key findings show 72% of trips to LECOM Field are 5 miles or less (61% are within 0–3 miles), about 79% of trips originate in Manatee County, game days shift demand with the morning peak down ~6.5% and the afternoon peak up ~2%, and the main peaks account for ~53% of daily trips. Urban SDK’s analysis quantified these patterns and highlighted clear opportunities for active‑transport and transit improvements, informing the City of Sarasota’s planning for Complete Streets and flexible curb management.
