Case Study: Santa Fe MPO achieves improved neighborhood road safety with a replicable Vision Zero speed-reduction solution from Urban SDK

A Urban SDK Case Study

Preview of the Santa Fe MPO Case Study

Evaluating road safety concerns in a two-square-mile study area located in Santa Fe, New Mexico

Santa Fe MPO engaged Urban SDK to evaluate road safety in a two‑square‑mile pilot area south of Cerrillos Road. Urban SDK used HERE location‑platform speed data and the municipality’s geocoded collision records to verify resident complaints about excessive speeding and to identify unreported high‑risk locations under a Vision Zero framework.

Urban SDK mapped speeds and collision hotspots and delivered prioritized, actionable recommendations—speed‑limit reductions, lane reconfiguration/road diets, access consolidation, protected cycling infrastructure, pedestrian signals, and targeted enforcement. The analysis quantified the safety burden (for example, 529 injury/fatal collisions including 9 fatalities on Cerrillos Road; 239 collisions on Rodeo/West Zia; 85th‑percentile speeds approaching 47 mph on Rodeo/West Zia and over 37 mph on Yucca), giving Santa Fe MPO measurable targets to reduce speeds and severe injuries.
